Midvaal Councillor Bongani Baloyi, is determined that Midvaal’s soccer teams should also be involved in serving their communities. He said this talking about his Mayoral Soccer Tournament. The Soccer Cup is held at the Sicelo stadium, and so the Mayor arranged for a clean-up of the Sicelo area surrounding the stadium. The Midvaal Local Football Association, along with team members, joined the Mayor and his committee in clearing up the open areas.  They were also joined by children living in the area who saw the activity and came to participate.
Mayor Baloyi arranged the clean-up as a means of instilling a sense of social responsibility amongst the young players.  Speaking to them at the clean-up, he said “young people are too often associated with negative things.  We must show our communities that young people are doing good work, and our sports players should be the role models for other young people in the community.”  According to MMC for Social Services, Cllr Rob Jones, “it is important that our teams appreciate the facilities which have been built for them in Sicelo and that they take pride in the field, as well as the surrounding areas and community.”
