The Emfuleni Local Municipality has confirmed the sudden resignation of its municipal manager, Yunus Chamda in a statement sent to all media houses. This was after a massive speculation on social media about Chamda’s intent to resign from Emfuleni Local Municipality.
The statement sent by Emfuleni states that Chamda’s departure is effective as of 31 March 2017. It further states that, he Chamda has cited ‘personal reasons’ for his resignation which follows 22 years of serving in Local Government. The Municipality wishes Mr Chamda well in his future endeavors.
In his parting message Mr Chamda conveyed his thanks and appreciation to Executive Mayor Mofokeng in particular, and to the rest of the Council and staff of Emfuleni. He wishes to emphasise that his departure is on amicable terms, and not by virtue of any break down in his working relationship with the Executive Mayor or any of the Councillors, political parties or fellow officials.
Despite the enormous challenges facing the Emfuleni Local Municipality, Mr Chamda is confident that under the leadership of Mayor Mofokeng, the ‘Four-Pillar’ Financial Turnaround plan is a solid basis for long term recovery.
During his 22 years in Local Government, Mr Chamda has served as the Mayor of the Vaal Metro, the Speaker of the Emfuleni Council, and Executive Director of Strategic Planning and as the Municipal Manager of both Sedibeng and Emfuleni. – By Fanelo Maseko
