Midvaal residents have once again gone on a rampage to barricade the R59 on Tuesday night.
This is after residents were allegedly asked to bring their identity documents so that they can be registered for land in the morning.
Reports says most residents then went back to protest in the streets because most of them do not have identity documents and therefore could not be able to register for land.
However, some residents said the protest started because residents were unhappy with the apparent failure of Human Settlements MEC, Paul Mashatile to attend to their demands.
They say Mashatile promised to allocate land for residents in a recent meeting with the community but has failed to keep his promise. Members of the SAPS and Public Order Policing were on the scene trying to calm the situation but R59 remain closed.
Meanwhile the Midvaal Local Municipality via their face book page said the municipality was doing everything in their power to contain the situation and were working on a solution. “Unfortunately by law we are not allowed to interfere with the work of the SAPS and Public Order Policing who are on the scene.” – Palesa Morake
