Most may remember Thando Makhaphela from a few years ago when she lit our TV screens on the popular talent search show, I Want to Sing Gospel.
Following a nationwide search, she was one of the Top 10 finalists. Although she didn’t walk away with the crown, this helped fast forward her already blossoming music career.
Her music journey continued as she got to work with many leading SA artists and groups as a backing vocalist. She worked with the likes of Spirit of Praise Volume 4 and Volume 5, Fashion Meets Gospel Chapter 3 and Chapter 4, Keke, Putuma, Zaza, Kgotso Makgalema, Mnqobi and Dumi Mkokstad.
Recently she also worked with the 2016 SAMA nominated Women in Praise. All of these didn’t go unnoticed and last week Friday 27 May, at the third Independent National Gospel Music Awards (Ingoma 2016) Nominees Party, she received a nomination for Best Backing Vocalist Award.
This was definitely a voice of confidence and approval for Thando, who from all the various projects with other artists, has managed to grow both as a musician and as an incredible worshipper. She has now embarked on her journey for a solo project and is also available for bookings.
