Thetha FM presenters who went on stay away from work strike without telling anyone last week are still not paid their salaries even after agreement with the stations management.

A reliable source close to the station has informed Loxion News that the presenters were still not paid as promised by the management in a meeting last week.

Thetha presenters and weekend Dj’s went on a gatvol stay away last Thursday morning that was supposed to be the normal one at the station.

All presenters who do the morning shows did not come to work; all their shows had to be done by the management. The studios were empty and management was asking each other about the whereabouts of their staff.

Speaking to Loxion News, the Station’s Manager “Mochacho” was shocked to see that no one is at work, he tried all methods on the book to get to the bottom of this matter but he couldn’t, presenters where nowhere to be found. Their phones were off while others did not answer their phones.

Mochacho when speaking to Loxion News said “Yesterday ended like every day and it was business as usual, presenters were here no sign of vanishing. We had our internal issues as a station but we made sure that we ironed them out last year,” he said.

“We sometimes have challenges of paying the presenters but we come to them and tell them what’s happening and we always make plan to pay them,“ he added.

He further said those presenters do not respect the policies of the station, they know how they should address their complaints and they being unfair to the management. How can you strike without telling the management that you striking and tell your reason for the action.

He said these are just a bunch of people playing with their jobs, and as the station they went all out for them, some received placement with advertising agencies, some got drivers licenses for free, some went to school to study, all that was done by the management to improve them and he is convinced that they are ungrateful and no company can do that for any employee.

“These presenters think that the radio will stop without them, NO it won’t management are presenters too and we can hire new presenters as of tomorrow. It won’t be difficult we have demos of people who are hungry for radio. Community radio Station is for learning and go”.

It means people are absent at work without reporting. I’m not even sure what to call this, strike, vanishing or sabotage but if is sabotage it is very stupid because it bounces back to them said Mochacho.

Jimmy Dlamini CEO of the station was called to come and see the situation for himself, and he was shocked to see that his jungle has turned to the playing castle where people can just vanish for no reason.

Thetha Fm presenters were not available to explain their “ghost” actions. Mid-day  presenters came and they did their shows as usual. They were surprised too, to hear that situation is like that. However, some of the presenters who spoke to Loxion News asked not to be named for fear of being victimized by the stations management, said they are not treated fairly by the station.

‘This strike is about salaries, presenters often go for months without their monthly payments. During that time the same presenters are expected to run paid adverts in their shows and even announce some,” said one presenter of the station.

“Some of the Thetha staff did not get paid for December, yet they are expected to be at work.”

Moreover, weekend presenters such as Peter-T, Ordridge Dingalo, Ntsiane Lesia, Madingaan Mnguni, Moruti Maloka, Tebza D & Dj KK did not get paid for 2-years now. “We are not happy with this situation. What kind of a station fails to pay its presenters for the whole two years?” the presenter fumed.

Meanwhile, Loxion News is in possession of a letter of the minutes of the meeting that was held with management and the striking Dj’s.
