In a statement released late last week, the Sedibeng Regional ANC said they will march to Eskom on the 3rd of August to voice their grievances about Eskom’s planned Vaal blackout.
Sedibeng ANC spokesperson, Boniface Mazilazila said, the regional REC has noted in their recent meeting with shock the official communication from Eskom on its plans to switch off electricity supply from the 6th August 2018.
“The REC views this measure as extreme and unacceptable as it has dire consequences for the local economy, social and health institutions and households who depend on electricity for survival.”
He said the ANC has requested an urgent meeting with Eskom leadership with the intention to stop this unfortunate decision especially when the Emfuleni Local Municipal (ELM) is servicing the debt as a client.
This undermines all the good work done by the collective of the municipality under the Executive Mayor, Cde Jacob Khawe. In this regard, the ANC has further resolved on a march to Eskom to protest against this anti-people’s decision on the *3rd*August *2018*.
Boniface said they call upon all residents to join them in a peaceful demonstration that will put pressure on the utility to reverse its draconian decision till proper consultations and amicable solutions are found that will not compromise the people of Emfuleni.
“The ANC as a people’s movement will at all times be on the side of the masses regardless of the associated costs. We were formed for and by the people, thus we are duty bound to protect the people of Emfuleni,” He added. – Loxion Reporter
