MIDVAAL – Midvaal Local Municipality says it is making significant progress in its ongoing War on Potholes campaign, with thousands of potholes repaired during July as part of efforts to improve road safety and infrastructure across the municipality.

Municipal road maintenance teams repaired 2,597 potholes during July, recording a weekly pothole closure rate of between 89% and 93% of all identified potholes.

The municipality’s Water Section also contributed to the campaign by addressing potholes caused by water-related infrastructure problems. A total of 430 water-related potholes were repaired during the month.

Gravel roads also receive attention

While pothole repairs remain a major focus, Midvaal’s road maintenance programme has also included improvements to its gravel road network.

Grading teams regravelled more than 19 kilometres of roads during July, helping to improve road conditions for residents who rely on gravel routes.

Road marking teams also continued with safety improvements across the municipality by repainting stop signs, pedestrian crossings and speed humps.

Boundary Road rehabilitation nearing completion

The municipality has also made progress on the rehabilitation of Boundary Road, following extensive road failures that affected sections of the route.

Rehabilitation work was undertaken to restore the structural integrity of the affected areas, with the project now substantially complete.

According to the municipality, only the painting of the centre line remains before the project can be fully completed.

Corrie Pypers Road reopened

Another infrastructure project completed by the municipality is the rehabilitation of Corrie Pypers Road in Golf Park.

Assessments conducted before the work began found that the road was highly saturated and required remedial intervention.

The rehabilitation has since been completed and the road has been reopened to traffic.

The municipality says it will continue investing in road maintenance and infrastructure upgrades as part of its efforts to provide residents with a safer and more reliable road network.

The ongoing work forms part of Midvaal’s broader efforts to address deteriorating road infrastructure and improve the quality of municipal services delivered to communities.
