Johannesburg — The Don Mattera Legacy Foundation (DMLF) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Don Francesco Mangaliso Nuruddin Mattera, affectionately known as Donny, the youngest son of the late literary icon Dr. Don Mattera and Melody Mattera.
Donny’s death marks a profound loss not only for the Mattera family, but also for all who knew him for his kindness, resilience, and steadfast commitment to advancing his father’s legacy of social justice and creativity.
In a heartfelt statement, the Don Mattera Legacy Foundation said it “joins the Mattera family, friends, and broader community in mourning the tragic passing of Donny Mattera.” The Foundation further extended its “deepest condolences to the entire family during this painful time,” pledging to continue honoring both Donny and Dr. Mattera’s vision for a more compassionate and equitable society.

“Just as Dr. Don Mattera lived a life rooted in love, justice, and humanity, Donny embodied those same values,” the Foundation noted. “He offered unwavering support to the work of the Foundation and to the communities it serves.”
Donny was laid to rest on Friday, 3 October 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in accordance with Muslim rites at Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg.
The Foundation concluded its statement by wishing peace upon Donny’s soul and comfort to his loved ones:
“May his soul rest in peace, and may the family be comforted by the love and prayers of all who share in their grief.”
