VANDERBIJLPARK
The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM), working in partnership with Ntiyiso Consulting Group, has taken decisive action after uncovering an illegal electricity connection involving a subcontracted official linked to Ntiyiso Consulting. The swift response underscores the municipality’s zero-tolerance stance on corruption and illegal service connections.

According to the municipality, the suspect was arrested and charged following an internal investigation and has already appeared before the Vanderbijlpark Magistrate’s Court, where he was remanded in custody without bail. The case has been formally reported to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further legal proceedings.

Firm Action Against Unlawful Conduct

“This incident is a direct violation of the Municipality’s Credit Control Policy, which ensures that all municipal services are delivered fairly and lawfully,” said Cllr Hassan Mako, MMC for Finance and Revenue.
He emphasized that illegal electricity connections not only compromise service delivery but also erode municipal revenue, funds that are essential for maintaining infrastructure and providing quality services to residents.

Ongoing Fight Against Illegal Connections

Illegal electricity connections continue to pose a nationwide challenge, threatening both economic stability and the integrity of public service systems. In response, ELM and Ntiyiso Consulting Group reaffirmed their joint commitment to accountability and ethical governance at all levels of service delivery.

“We call on the residents of Emfuleni to actively protect public resources by reporting any known cases of illegal connections,” said Cllr Mako. “Our by-law enforcement teams will act decisively against anyone—whether a resident or an employee—found guilty of engaging in unlawful activities. Offenders will face arrest and severe penalties.”

Building a Transparent and Sustainable Community

Both the Emfuleni Local Municipality and Ntiyiso Consulting Group have pledged to continue working together to promote transparency, fairness, and sustainable development. Their collaborative stance serves as a strong reminder that illegal activities will not be tolerated within Emfuleni’s jurisdiction.

Residents are urged to report any suspicious activity related to illegal electricity connections to the municipality or SAPS.
