In a major step towards strengthening municipal operations and improving community services, Midvaal Local Municipality has announced the procurement of 18 new vehicles worth R21 million to enhance service delivery across the region.
The expanded fleet forms part of Midvaal’s ongoing commitment to improving infrastructure, waste management, and public safety services.
Upgraded Fleet to Support Core Services
The new additions include a water tanker that will be deployed to the Roads Section for the maintenance of gravel roads — a critical service for rural and semi-urban communities. The Roads Section will also benefit from two 2-ton trucks dedicated to pothole patching, and two bakkies to assist with staff transport during daily operations.

To strengthen the municipality’s waste management capacity, Midvaal has also procured a compactor truck, a front loader, an excavator, and two additional trucks to ensure faster and more efficient refuse collection and landfill operations.
Enhancing Emergency and Traffic Services
In addition to service delivery upgrades, R4 million has been allocated towards the purchase of a dedicated water truck to support emergency response efforts, ensuring that the municipality is better equipped to respond to incidents such as fires and water supply challenges.
The Traffic Department will receive six new vehicles to improve traffic management and road safety throughout the municipality. This move aims to increase law enforcement visibility, reduce response times, and promote safer roads for all residents.

Commitment to Continuous Improvement
Midvaal Local Municipality reaffirmed its dedication to expanding its operational capacity through continued investment in modern equipment and vehicles.
“Midvaal will continue to invest in expanding its fleet to ensure that we reach as many areas across our municipality and meet service delivery needs,” the municipality stated.
The new fleet investment underscores Midvaal’s strategy of proactive governance and infrastructure development, ensuring that all communities benefit from efficient, responsive, and reliable municipal services.
