In a celebration of creativity, youth talent, and national pride, FlySafair has unveiled a striking new Protea-themed aircraft livery designed by 22-year-old Gqeberha student Dinika Naidu. The announcement marks one year of partnership between FlySafair and Cricket South Africa (CSA), a collaboration that has taken both brands to new heights.
The grand reveal took place at FlySafair’s Johannesburg hangar on 5 November 2025, where the bold new design was showcased for the first time. Naidu’s artwork was selected from hundreds of entries submitted in a nationwide design competition that followed the launch of the three-year sponsorship deal in October 2024.
A Design that Embodies South African Unity
Naidu’s winning concept captures the beauty of the Protea flower, a symbol of resilience and pride blended seamlessly with FlySafair’s iconic branding. The design’s fluid, calligraphic lines represent the unity between South Africa’s national cricket teams and the country’s leading low-cost carrier.
“When we partnered with Cricket SA, we wanted to do something uniquely South African,” said Kirby Gordon, Chief Marketing Officer at FlySafair. “Dinika’s design captures that spirit beautifully, and we’re proud to have it flying across the country.”
Celebrating a Year of Sporting Excellence
Since the partnership began, both Proteas teams have achieved major milestones. The men’s team lifted the ICC Test World Cup trophy earlier this year, while the women’s team continued to shine on the international stage. FlySafair played a key role in supporting the trophy tour, connecting fans nationwide.
“This partnership is about more than logistics, it’s about unity, excellence, and connecting fans,” said Mtunzi Jonas, Chief Commercial Officer at CSA. “Having a young South African designer play such a central role makes it even more special.”

From Student to Sky
For Naidu, a self-taught graphic designer and student at Nelson Mandela University, the experience has been nothing short of surreal.
“As a young designer, you dream about moments like this,” she said. “To see my work on a real aircraft, it’s unbelievable. I’m so grateful to FlySafair and Cricket SA for this opportunity.”
Her livery design features flowing lines and subtle cricket imagery, using the vibrant colours of both brands. The minimalist yet powerful aesthetic reflects her goal to create a design that is “simple but impactful.”
Looking Ahead: A Partnership in Motion
As the Proteas gear up for a busy domestic season, FlySafair and CSA are planning fan activations and community initiatives throughout South Africa leading up to the 2027 Cricket World Cup, which will be hosted across South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
“From flying the Test World Cup trophy to supporting the women’s team, it’s been a privilege to be part of the Proteas’ journey,” added Gordon. “Now, with Dinika’s design in our skies, we’re taking it to new heights literally.”
The new Protea-liveried aircraft will operate on FlySafair’s domestic routes, ensuring that cricket fans across the country can witness this unique collaboration between sport, art, and aviation.
