The Midvaal Local Municipality successfully hosted a one-of-a-kind Youth Summit aimed at bringing government services closer to the
people and providing young people with opportunities. e Summit saw participation from over 1000 young individuals from across the 15 wards of the municipality. is Youth Summit is a response to the Buang Batjha (Youth Speak) campaign that took place from May to June 2023, featuring extensive participation and public engagements across di erent communities addressing various societal issues. e event welcomed various stakeholders,
including government departments, youth agencies, NGOs, private
companies, and higher learning institutions. e Executive Mayor, Alderman Peter Teixeira warmly welcomed the youth, stating, “Your decision to be here is a resounding a rmation of your determination to shape a brighter future for yourselves and our community.”
SAYouth.mobi, an organisation, announced pledged to hire over 100 young attendees from the summit. ese individuals
will be placed in various positions, including coding at Early Childhood Development Centres (ECD) and in the eld of creative arts. is hiring initiative is in addition to the 291 jobs already provided to young people across the Sedibeng region.
Human Capital Learning Solutions o ered all present young individuals at the summit access to three internationally recognised skills development courses for free. Just Radio, a radio station based in Midvaal, o ered internship opportunities to four aspiring young individuals seeking a career in media. e Executive Mayor will announce plans and initiatives from the municipality for youth development in the coming
months.
